The Trouble with Tube Mascaras (Especially When it Comes to Hitting Pan)

I used to like using tube mascaras because most of the tubes that are sold and used today in beauty have gorgeous packaging that is too good to throw out if the mascara product ever went bad or if I managed to finish it. But now that I'm wearing the Benefit Roller Lash Black Mascara and the Butter London Wink Colour Mascara in Indigo Punk as part of my makeup routine, I feel like those mascaras have been dragging on for over a year and it's causing me to get sick and tired of using tube mascaras entirely.

The Butter London mascara feels like it's about to overflow when I apply it, even though tube mascaras have rubber stoppers to prevent such incidents. But this rubber stopper doesn't seem to be doing a good job. Some product clumps on its wand and I have to scrape it back into the tube. However, working with Butter London can never be as disastrous as what happened when I tried to thin out the Benefit mascara.

In an attempt to speed up my no-buy project pan progress, I needed to put a few drops of olive oil into that mascara's tube. And to do that, I tried to surgically remove its rubber stopper with some kind of paring blade. Unfortunately, the stopper suddenly slipped INTO the tube to the point where I could not fish it back out without spilling and wasting a whole lot of the mascara product. So I just left the stopper inside the tube, having figured that I could just yank the stopper out when the product runs extremely low into the bottom of the tube, which I felt like it did a couple of weeks later. At this point, I used a couple of dental hooks to try hooking the stopper out of the tube, but it still did not budge and lots of product was spilling out again! Then I had to bring up a pair of pliers to try taking the tube apart so that I can pull out the stopper. But guess what: the tube could not come apart at all! And then I had to pair a tweezer with one dental hook to grasp the stopper up to the top of the tube and wrestle my way into tweezing it out of the tube. Then that failed as a last resort, thus rendering everything a series of incomplete attempts. The stopper is stuck inside the tube forever and any efforts to yank it out or pop the tube apart are now in vain.

If I ever hit pan on and finish off the Benefit mascara, then I have no choice but to throw the entire tube out, even though the packaging looks nice, because I can never be able to get the stupid stopper out. But until then, I am currently using the mascara as an eyeliner using an angled brush because even with the accidents I put up with trying to pull out the damn stopper, there is still hell of a lot of product left!

However, in light of what I discussed regarding the Butter London mascara in the beginning of this article, I'm afraid I might go through the same series of accidents with this product. Even though the tube is clear for me to easily monitor the no-buy project pan progress with its product, it still feels like the mascara will splatter over the tube and my hands one day as I apply it on my lashes.

On the one hand, I feel like I'll never finish this mascara before it even rots away. On the other hand, even if I manage to so much as hit pan on it, I feel like it's gonna drag on for another year, which I'm starting to get uncomfortable with. The mascaras I just discussed in this article are only 2 out of the 5 total mascaras I'm trying to use up in my no-buy project pan challenge. If I'm able to finish off the Benefit and Butter London mascaras, that means I'll have 3 mascaras left to struggle with. I only hope that I don't have to end up accidentally slipping all their stoppers inside their tubes just as what happened with the Benefit mascara. That incident may sound funny to you, but it really pissed me off when it happened! I mainly discuss the no-buy project pan challenge on my WordPress website, so I have minimalistic makeup plans for after I finish up my entire makeup collection. For example, if I manage to use up and empty ALL of my 5 mascaras, then I'm gonna switch to cake mascara, specifically Besame Cosmetics' Cake mascara line. If these bad boys ever hit pan, then there are NO tubes or stoppers to struggle through to completely finish every last drop because you can just swipe the product up, coat every single strand of your upper AND lower lashes in a beautiful noir, wash your mascara brush, store the Black Cake set away, and FUHGETTABOUTIT!!! Besame's Eye Cake line is already our nation's top bestseller. So, as stated before, my mountainous 5 mascaras are a very difficult part of the no-buy project pan challenge. In light of that, I hope to finish off every other cosmetic product in my makeup collection so that I'm more able to burn through the mascaras. By the way, check out my WordPress website minniemouseminaj.wordpress.com for articles related to the no-buy challenge and to how well I'm going on! XOXO, GGdoLL!
